Born in Malawi to a Belgian mother and a father who ran the tiny 'Nyasaland Times', Michelle Paver moved to the UK when she was three. She grew up in Wimbledon and, following a Biochemistry Degree from Oxford, she became a partner in a City law firm. Eventually, though, having submerged herself in myth and folklore (not at work) and having been chased by a bear (again, not at work), she gave up the lawyer life to follow her long-held dream of becoming a writer. Successfully published as an adult author, the CHRONICLES OF ANCIENT DARKNESS are her first - brilliant - books for children.
She is an established writer of love stories but Paver has earned a reported £2.8 million advance for her new book, 'Wolf Brother', which she actually began writing while studying biochemistry at Oxford University. .
Since the age of ten, Michelle Paver has dreamed about running with the wild wolves in the prehistoric forest. Writing The Chronicles of Ancient Darkness series has been a way for her to fulfill this dream. To research Wolf Brother, Michelle traveled through the forests of northern Finland and Lapland; slept on reindeer skins; ate lichens, forest berries, and pine resin (Stone Age chewing gum); and peered into the mouth of a very large brown bear. Born in Malawi, she moved to England as a young girl. She is the author of several adult novels, and this is her first children's book.
